Vatican, June 16th, 2016 – President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, was received today by the Holy Father, Pope Francis, in the Vatican, for a private audience.
During the meeting with His Holiness, which lasted more than half an hour, President Thaçi said that the values represented by the Holy See, such as reconciliation, peace, cooperation and tolerance are values which Kosovo continues to embrace.
President Thaçi briefed the Holy Father of the internal and external of Kosovo as a state, which has managed to turn the page on the bitter part of its history, and we are now on a path to towards a peaceful, stable, prosperous future for its citizens and the entire region.
During the meeting with Pope Francis, President Thaçi said that Kosovo is an example in the region and beyond for tolerance and coexistence between peoples of different religious and ethnic groups.
Also, he expressed his happiness over Mother Teresa’s canonization this September, stressing that Mother Teresa is an embodiment of universal values.
President of the Republic of Kosovo, President Thaçi thanked His Holiness Pope Francis also for the support that the Vatican has always given to the people of Kosovo.
The President has submitted to the Holy Father an invitation to visit Kosovo in the near future and expressed his wish that the Holy See will recognize the state of Kosovo at the earliest opportunity.
