Washington DC, January 09 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, has started the high official visit in the USA, in the framework of which he will meet senior officials of the US administration, senators, congressmen and “think-tank” leaders and personalities who have played an important role or who will play a role in the developments in Washington in relation to Kosovo and the Balkans.
At the White House, President Thaçi will be received by the Vice President of the United States of America, Joe Biden.
Whereas, at the US Senate, President Thaçi will have separate meetings with important senators on developments in Europe and in our region. The first meeting will be with Senator Bob Corker, Chairman of the United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.
Then with Senator Joni Ernst, a Republican from Iowa, US Army veteran who has visited Kosovo and is a supportive voice about Kosovo, especially about the Kosovo Security Force.
The next meeting in the Senate is with Senator John McCain, also a army veteran, but also a veteran of politics in the USA, and the meeting with Senator Jim DeMint, among the most prominent figures of the Republican Party and chairman of “The Heritage Foundation” – the most influential think-tank in the formation of the transitional team of the elected President, Donald Trump.
At the US Congress, President Thaçi will meet Congressman Eliot Engel and Congressman Michael Turner, who is also President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
Among the other important meetings is also the one with Bob Dole, former senator and one of the most powerful voices on Kosovo in Washington, close to the team of the elected President, Trump.
Among the main meetings with representatives of influential think-tanks in the politics of the United States, is the meeting with Strobe Talbott, former Deputy Secretary of State, US Foreign Policy expert who now serves as President of “Brookings Institute”; with Morton Abramowitz and Jim Hooper, who have played an important role in international politics in relation to Kosovo, and the meeting with Frederick Kempe and with Damon Wilson of “AtlanticCouncil”.
In all these meetings, President Thaçi will discuss the continuation of cooperation of Kosovo with the USA and deepening it.
“My visit and reception in Washington is a confirmation of the special and permanent friendship that we have with the United States of America”, said President Thaçi at the beginning of his visit to Washington.
“With the changes in the world, our friendship with the USA – our special rapport, is vital for the future of Kosovo, for the peace and stability in our region”, concluded President Hashim Thaçi.
