Prishtina, October 18 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, took part today at the conference organized for the European Union Day Against the Trafficking of Human Beings.
President Thaçi emphasized that many people around the world are facing this shameful phenomenon and neither Kosovo is excluded from it.
“This phenomenon must be prevented through concrete actions and measures”, said President Thaçi.
He said that it is the right moment for us all to unite, to prevent and fight this crime, in all its forms and simultaneously to do more to protect the victims of trafficking.
To succeed in the prevention and combating of the trafficking with human beings, and in ensuring the assistance and protection to trafficked victims, President Thaçi said that a collaboration of all state-level mechanisms and authorities is necessary.
“The Republic of Kosovo can not and will not remain silent in the fight against human trafficking. Human trafficking is an issue that affects all of us and at the same time threatens the future of all”, he added.
According to President Thaçi, it is the responsibility of every institution and every person in Kosovo, to be committed to end human trafficking in all its forms.
President Thaçi stated that the competent authorities for the prevention and combating of trafficking with people, as well as providing assistance and protection to trafficked victims, must act to prevent trafficking, by denouncing and imprisoning traffickers especially to help and protect victims.
“We can not have full success in the fight against human trafficking without the support and involvement of the whole society”, said President Thaçi.
President Thaçi said that the efficient prevention and fighting of this negative phenomenon, will helps us a lot to make the Republic of Kosovo a state with a high image in the international opinion, where there will be no space for human trafficking and where human dignity will be respected.
Part of this conference organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, besides President Thaçi and the Foreign Minister Skender Hyseni, who was the host, were also the Head of the EU Office in Kosovo, Nataliya Apostolova, US Ambassador Greg Delawie, the Minister of Justice , Dhurata Hoxha, the Minister of Labour and Social Welfare, Arban Abrashi, etc.
Also present at this conference were a large number of representatives of civil society organizations who give their continued contribution in the combating of this negative phenomenon.
