The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani, has commenced her two-day state visit to Albania, where she was received with the highest state honours by President Bajram Begaj.
At the meeting with President Begaj, President Osmani thanked Albania for supporting Kosovo in all stages of its engagements for freedom, independence and state building.
President Osmani stated the need to augment the level of continuous and preliminary coordination in foreign policy, in relation to the interests of both countries, but also of the region and beyond.
“Kosovo and Albania have a unique historical, cultural and national connection, this connection is strong and unbreakable. In the face of challenges, we must remain united, focusing on our main goal: the integration of our countries into the Euro-Atlantic family”, pointed out President Osmani.
According to President Osmani, Kosovo is committed to the strengthening of its international position, pushing forward the goal of new recognitions and membership in international organizations. In this context, President Osmani expressed the need for Albania’s continuous support .
“This challenge requires commitment and synchronized acts for new recognitions and membership in international organizations. As in the past, we expect Albania to be our voice in the countries and forums where we are not yet present,” said President Osmani.
Madam President also mentioned membership bids for Council of Europe, NATO, EU, but also to other international organizations. “Kosovo’s membership in NATO as a long-term goal and inclusion as soon as possible in NATO’s Partnership for Peace Program are guarantees for peace and security in the region and in our continent. The fact that Albania is already a member of NATO creates greater security in our entire region and in particular in Kosovo,” stressed President Osmani.
In relation to the political and security developments in the country, President Osmani emphasized that Kosovo, despite the open challenges in security and institutional plans presented by Serbia, continues to be committed to the dialogue process, as two independent and neighbouring states. According to President Osmani, its final result should be the mutual recognition and preservation of the territorial integrity, sovereignty, constitutional order as well as of the institutional functionality of the Republic of Kosovo.
