The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani visited today the “A grave is better than not knowing” exhibition, organized by the Humanitarian Law Center in Kosovo and brought to life by artist Driton Selmani with curator Blerta Hoçia.
President Osmani said that in the clocks of the exhibition that measure time, you see the days, hours, minutes and seconds that never end in waiting for an answer, waiting for the clarification of the fate of those who forcibly disappeared during the last war.
“It shows the endless and constant pain of family members but also of an entire state because our freedom will never be complete without the clarification of the fate of the missing,” said President Osmani.
Below is President Osmani's post in its entirety:
Today I visited the “A grave is better than not knowing” exhibition, organized by the Humanitarian Law Center in Kosovo and brought to life by artist Driton Selmani with curator Blerta Hoçia. In the clocks of the exhibition that measure time, you see the days, hours, minutes and seconds that never end in waiting for an answer, waiting for the clarification of the fate of those who forcibly disappeared during the last war. t shows the endless and constant pain of family members but also of an entire state because our freedom will never be complete without the clarification of the fate of the missing.
The pain felt for the 1622 people who went forcibly missing is constant and becomes even more severe when you know the fact that they are still being held hostage in Serbia, exactly in the country that is guilty of their forceful disappearance. Through the exhibition, the fate of our missing is authentically shown to the public, knocking on the conscience of everyone because they are missing not only to their families but also for our state. The stones of this exhibition are each one of the missing, they are the painful daily routine of every family that awaits the epilogue of the over 22-year-old anxiety.
I hope that this exhibition will be visited by all our citizens and also make its journey through different countries, to demonstrate our tragedy to the world, our pain, our truth! Preserving the historical memory is among the strongest pieces of evidence of that what happened in Kosovo.
