The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani, received today the United Kingdom Foreign Secretary Lord David Cameron.
The excellent relations between Kosovo and the United Kingdom, commitment to the expansion of interstate cooperation, strengthening of Kosovo’s international position, as well as the security situation in the region and beyond were discussed at the meeting.
President Osmani thanked Secretary Cameron for the United Kingdom’s steadfast support through the years, including diplomatic support in the process of Kosovo’s integration into international institutions.
President Osmani reiterated the importance of Kosovo’s membership in NATO, commencing with inclusion in the Partnership for Peace, as an imperative step in ensuring long-term peace and security in the region and beyond.
President Osmani also emphasized the importance of membership in the Council of Europe for the further strengthening and advancement of human rights.
The security situation in the region and beyond was also discussed, with President Osmani informing Secretary Cameron with the ongoing destabilizing efforts of Serbia, including the act of aggression and the terrorist act against the Republic of Kosovo on September 24th.
Madam President thanked Secretary Cameron for the appendment of British troops to KFOR, emphasizing the importance of cooperation for the security of the border with Serbia.
In this regard, the President also spoke about the terrorist groups, supported by Belgrade, which continue to create fear and intimidation within the Serbian community.
Irrespective of this, President Osmani pointed out that Kosovo is an example in the region in relation to the rights of the non-majority communities, and reaffirmed Kosovo’s full commitment to empowering every citizen, without distinction.
