The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani received today at a meeting the senior official of the Secretary of State in the Office for Global Women's Affairs (S/GWI) Katrina Fotovat.
At the meeting with Mrs. Fotovat President Osmani emphasized that the Forum for Women, Peace and Security on the theme of “Building Alliances for Sustainable Peace” is being organized for the first time and constitutes one of the commitments made at the Summit for Democracy.
According to President Osmani, the Forum is the first event of such dimensions with participants from 6 continents.
The women of the Republic of Kosovo, according to President Osmani, understand very well the importance of this Agenda.
President Osmani emphasized that the women of Kosovo are the best example of engagement around this agenda. According to President Osmani, they stand out specifically for their active engagement to relief and dealing with the consequences of war and transitional justice. Furthermore, the President singled out the work of the Government Commission for the recognition and verification of the status of persons violated during the war. According to President Osmani, women from civil society have also helped, as have the survivors of sexual violence.
President Osmani expressed her belief that with the involvement of women in the peace and security processes, the chances for lasting peace increase.
The parties have agreed on cooperation and regular coordination towards the realization of joint projects towards the advancement and implementation of the GPS Agenda.
