The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani received today at a meeting the President of Albania Mr. Ilir Meta.
Assessing the relations between Kosovo and Albania as excellent, President Osmani asked her counterpart Meta that Albania be a strong voice of Kosovo in organizations in which our country is not as yet represented.
President Osmani emphasized that she is against any idea which attempts to treat Kosovo unequally.
“Kosovo cannot become part of regional initiatives or mechanisms if the representation in these initiatives from the very start is not comprehensive and is not based upon the principle of equality,” said President Osmani. Referring to the Open Balkans initiative, she stressed that she cannot support any initiative that could rival or hinder the EU integration process and the Euro-Atlantic orientation of the region, and where Serbia which has not as yet has recognized Kosovo, aims to play a leading role.
President Osmani also pointed out that Kosovo has shown readiness to continue the dialogue with Serbia, but will not be part of any arrangement, which does not guarantee the sovereignty, integrity and functionality of the state of Kosovo.
In this context, President Osmani said that together with Albania, they should both commit themselves to convey the message to the region and to the world about the danger posed to the Balkans by the aggressive and hegemonic policy of Serbia.
President Osmani, on the eve of Flag Day, congratulated President Meta and the Albanian people on the 109th anniversary of Albania's independence and stressed that this day makes Albanians proud, wherever they might be. According to President Osmani, the long-established cooperation with Albania in many areas will be followed by other agreements. She mentioned the meeting of the two Governments, which will be held on November 26th in Elbasan, in which Kosovo and Albania will sign 16 additional agreements, including the ones on free movement, trade, education, justice and infrastructure.
