The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani received during the week the Board of the Association of Municipalities of Kosovo, chaired by its President Agim Aliu.
The main topic of the meeting was the need for urgent handling by all institutions of cases of gender-based violence,particularly considering the recent cases of murders of women that occurred in several municipalities.
In this context, President Osmani emphasized the importance of the engagement of the municipalities towards raising of the security measures through the Centers for Social Work, as well as sustainable support through financial support from the municipalities to the victims of gender-based violence. A number of necessary measures were also discussed, to which both presidents showed their full readiness for cooperation.
Furthermore, Madam President emphasized that the issue of gender-based violence has been addressed and continues to be addressed in the Council for Democracy and Human Rights, which has forwarded concrete recommendations to the relevant institutions for urgent action.
The needs of municipalities, projects aimed at sustainable economic growth, as well as the necessity of cooperation between the central and local levels for projects of civic interest were also discussed at the meeting.
President Osmani and the mayors of the municipalities, among other things, talked about the importance of lifting of EU measures, noting that the citizens are the ones who are most affected by these measures. President Osmani announced her continuous engagements to lift these measures as soon as possible to the benefit of the citizens of Kosovo.
At the meeting with the AKK Board, the necessary investments in the health and education sectors, as two priority areas, as well as joint projects for the support of children with special needs were subjects discussed.
The following points were also discussed at the meeting :promotion of tourism in the municipalities of Kosovo, cooperation between the Office of the President and the municipalities in the implementation of projects in this field, with the support from Albania.
