The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani Sadriu has commemorated the activist Ismet Rraci, on the 21st anniversary of his assassination.
President Osmani said that he dedicated his whole life to the motherland. As the mayor of Klina, he worked tirelessly for his beloved country, Kosovo, to be liberated and become a free and independent country, making an outstanding contribution in service of the citizens of the Municipality of Klina.
“Unfortunately, just two years after the liberation, on April 23, 2001, he was treacherously killed while on his way to work. “On that day, not only Klina, but the whole of Kosovo lost a tireless activist, an outstanding intellectual and patriot, who during the most difficult times took care of the fatherland and its people,” said President Osmani.
Below is President Osmani's entire post:
Today, on the 21st anniversary of the murder we remember Ismet Rraci, one of the most devoted activists of the Kosovo caucus. Activist among the earliest, he devoted his whole life to the fatherland. As the mayor of Klina, he worked tirelessly for his beloved country, Kosovo, to be liberated and become a free and independent country, making an outstanding contribution in service of the citizens of the Municipality of Klina.
Unfortunately, just two years after the liberation on April 23, 2001, he was treacherously killed while on his way to work. On that day, not only Klina, but the whole of Kosovo lost a tireless activist, an outstanding intellectual and patriot, who in the most difficult times took care of the homeland of his people.
For his contribution to the freedom and independence of Kosovo, the historic president of Kosovo Dr. Ibrahim Rugova, in 2004 had awarded Mr. Rraci the “Order of Independence”.
Klina and the whole of Kosovo will always remember Mr. Rraci, for his intellectual and civic courage, bravery, patriotism and contribution to state-building in Kosovo.
Glory to the life and work of Ismet Rraci!
