President Osmani at the meeting with the Women Economic Forum: The new Labor Law should be approved as soon as possible

The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani, received today the representatives of the Women Economic Forum, led by Mrs. Saxhide Mustafa.

The urgent need for the approval of the new Labor Law in the Assembly of Kosovo was discussed at the meeting.

President Osmani emphasized that the full and equal integration of women and men in the economy is a long-term strategy to stimulate economic growth and the active participation of women in the economy. In this spirit, the President emphasized that reducing the gender gap in the labor market not only increases the social and economic well-being of women but also contributes to the general well-being of newborns and families. Therefore, the new labor law that addresses these needs must be per EU directives and be processed as soon as possible in the Assembly.

In particular, the importance of policies related to parental leave was discussed, as an important measure that should be regulated by this law. President Osmani and the representatives of the Women Economic Forum discussed possible models of parental leave, which have been proposed by civil society organizations, and which enable and encourage the active participation of women in the economy, based on the best international practices.

President Osmani and the Women Economic Forum also discussed the importance of gender-responsive budgeting as an important measure of both central and local institutions. At the meeting, a call was made for greater commitment from all relevant institutions to develop and implement fair and efficient policies that address the specific challenges faced by women in the labor market.
