The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Madam Atifete Jahjaga thanks the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo and all the national and international personalities who expressed their solidarity and supported the realization of the artistic installation “Thinking of you” by artist Alketa Xhafa-Mripa and producer Anna Di Lellio, organized under the auspices of the National Council for the Survivors of Sexual Violence during the War, led by the President of Kosovo.
The installation “Thinking of you” became the best proof of the solidarity demonstrated by the whole society for the survivors of sexual violence during the war in Kosovo and this demonstration of our commitment to support the survivors of this war crime should be concretized with our action as institutions and society for their full rehabilitation and reintegration. We must keep the promise that the survivors of sexual violence will never be alone.
The echo of this artistic work and the social support this cause has received has exceeded the borders of the Republic of Kosovo. This event sensitized the international opinion about the dimensions of this war crime committed in Kosovo and brought our country out as an example of the healing of war wounds, united to address such an important social cause and global challenge.
President Jahjaga at the same time wants to thank the organizations in Kosovo who have worked for two decades with the survivors of sexual violence, helping their welfare and treatment and who have contributed consistently to raise our awareness on this issue and many of their members and supporters and of this cause who in the quality of volunteers helped in the realization of this artistic work.
The Office of the President of the Republic of Kosovo is also grateful for their financial support to UN WOMEN, the British Embassy, the Swiss Embassy, the Office of the Special Representative of the European Union in Kosovo, the Embassy of the United States of America, Kosovo’s Women Network, the Center for Rehabilitation of Victims of Torture and Bleron Baraliu.
