President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, received today at a meeting the leaders of political parties represented in the national parliament, PDK President- Mr. Hashim Thaçi, LDK President- Mr. Isa Mustafa, AAK President- Mr. Ramush Haradinaj and AKR Vice President- Mrs. Mimoza Kusari-Lila.
At the meeting, initiated by the leaders of the parliamentary political parties, President Jahjaga was informed by them with the situation at the Parliament of Kosovo, the inability to continue the decision making process for processes important to the country, inclusive of inability to vote on Armed Forces of Kosovo and the need for dissolving of the parliament with the aim of holding of pre term general elections in the country.
Leaders of the parliamentary political parties present at the meeting emphasized the necessity of the holding of pre term elections at an optimal time period in order to release the country from the current political blockage.
President Jahjaga stated that she will remain the guarantor of the legality and constitutionality and a factor of political unity in the country.
After the meeting, President Jahjaga gave a press statement to the journalists, which we are publishing in its entirety:
“Today I received at meeting political leaders of Kosovo upon their request. They informed me with the steps they will undertake on the issue of pre term elections in Kosovo. As the President of the Republic of Kosovo, I will continue to remain a factor of political unity in the country and all my actions will be in conformity with the Constitution and the laws of the Republic of Kosovo”.
When asked about the date when the elections will be held, President Jahjaga responded: I will respect the decision of the Parliament of the Republic of Kosovo, which is also the first step which obliges me as the President of the country to commence the consultations with political parties, as stipulated by the Constitution of the country.
