President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, received today at a meeting, the Head of the EU Election Observation Mission, Mr. Roberto Gualtieri, mission which observed the last municipal elections in Kosovo.
President Jahjaga thanked Mr. Gualtieri and the mission which he leads, for the work carried out in support of a democratic process, thus increasing the credibility and transparency of the electoral process in Kosovo.
Madam President stated that the municipal elections organised for the first time in the whole territory of the Republic of Kosovo have demonstrated proper proceedings of a process organised fully by the institutions of the country, with a satisfactory participation level of citizens. Madam President also added that this standard of electoral process must be strengthened even further in order for the next elections to be fair, free and democratic.
Head of the EU Election Observation Mission, Mr. Roberto Gualtieri, said that he is satisfied with the quality of the last electoral process in Kosovo, which is an important step ahead towards democratic consolidation. Mr. Gualtieri informed President about the recommendations of this mission related to the next elections which will be published later today as part of this mission’s final report. He added that the positive trend of the last municipal elections must be sustained as well at the next parliamentary elections,
Mr. Gualtieri thanked President Jahjaga for her political role in support of a free fair and democratic electoral process.
