President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, received today at a meeting a delegation of the EU Monitoring Mission, lead by the Head of Mission, Mr. Roberto Gualtieri, who was accompanied by the EU Special Representative in Kosovo, Mr. Samuel Zbogar, with whom she discussed the final preparations for the pre term general elections in the country.
President Jahjaga initially expressed her appreciation for the approval of the invitation, by the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security, Catherine Ashton, for sending of a election monitoring mission to Kosovo and also highly praised the work and engagements of such a mission sent to monitor last November’s municipal elections.
President Jahjaga emphasized that pre term general elections in Kosovo, due to be held tomorrow, June 8th, must augment the standard determined by last year’s municipal elections and they must demonstrate Kosovo’s maturity in organisation of free, fair, all inclusive and democratic elections. She also added that June 8th elections are of great importance for the integrative processes of our country.
President Jahjaga also expressed her interest on the preparations of the monitoring mission for their engagement on Election Day.
Head of the EU Monitoring Mission, Mr. Roberto Gaultieri, thanked President Jahjaga for her invitation to monitor the elections and stated that Mission is prepared to monitor the whole electoral process. He also added that Mission will monitor all the segments of the process and that it is fully coordinated with the responsible institutions for the organisation and proper conduct of the process. Mr. Gualtieri said that he expects that general elections in Kosovo will uphold the standard determined by the last year’s municipal elections.
