President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, received today at a meeting a delegation of the German Parliament (Bundestag), led by Mr. Johannes Selle and accompanied by the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Kosovo, Mr. Peter Blomeyer.
President Jahjaga praised the delegation’s visit as well as the continuous support provided by Germany on the fulfilment of the vision of the integration into European Union.
Madam President emphasized that the European agenda enjoys a nationwide consensus and a large support by the citizens of all the communities of Kosovo. She also added that the expedition of the European integration process would be a further incitement for Kosovo’s reforms, democratic consolidation, and economic growth as well as send a signal to the citizens of Kosovo that the future of the country lies with the European Union.
President Jahjaga informed the Bundestag delegation with the on goings of the dialogue process between Republic of Kosovo and Republic of Serbia, which she classified as the only manner for normalisation of relations between the two countries.
Chairman of the Bundestag delegation, Mr. Johannes Selle, stated that Germany supports the ambition of Kosovo to become a member of the European Union. He also said that the project of the unified Europe has shown to be a successful one, and that it is our wish that western Balkans also becomes part of Europe. He added that this journey might be a long one but Kosovo has already undertaken the first important steps on this path.
German officials, speaking in relation to the intensification of the economic development between the two countries, stated that Kosovo must continue to strengthen the investment infrastructure in order for more German investments to reach Kosovo. Kosovo must also direct itself towards offering of a modern and practical educational system, which accommodates the needs of the market and those of the investors.
