President Jahjaga participated at the opening of the Summit “Women in the World”, in New York, USA

The President of the Republic of Kosovo Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga attended the opening of the Third Summit “Women in the World” (Women in the World) organized by Newsweek and The Daily Beast which is being held in New York.

At the summit, which is being attended by nearly 2000 participants from around the world, topics dealing with global challenges of the XXI century and the role of women in security issues and leadership will be discussed.

At the opening of the Summit, President Jahjaga met with the former U.S. Secretary of State Mrs. Madeleine Albright, with whom she talked about the current issues in Kosovo.
At the gala dinner hosted by the organizer of the Summit, President Jahjaga met with the International Monetary Fund Managing Director Mrs. Christine Lagarde, and the UK ambassador to the U.S., Mr. Peter Westmacott.

She also met the famous American actress and goodwill ambassador to the UN, Angelina Jolie, whom she invited to visit Kosovo to see possibilities of developing cinematography in the country.

At the opening of the conference, former U.S. Secretary of State, Mrs. Madeleine Albright speaking at the panel “The price of war” shared with the participants her experience of childhood as a refugee of the World War II by comparing it with the exodus of refugees during the war in Kosovo and other countries of former Yugoslavia.

Mrs. Albright considered the international community intervention in Kosovo as a right intervention. In her presentation Mrs. Albright greeted the participation of President Jahjaga at the Conference and recalled the commitment of the administration of former President Clinton to give the meritorious solution to the Kosovo issue.

The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, is the only female leader from the Balkans invited to this summit and during the next two days she will speak in panels about her experiences regarding the impact of women in security.

President Jahjaga will participate in the panels, “Safety is the responsibility of the woman” and in the panel “Women World Leaders” where there will be discussions on the global impact on advancing the position of women and her role in international and local security.
