President Jahjaga paid homage at the tomb of Kosovo’s historic President, Ibrahim Rugova and at the Memorial Complex in Prekaz

As part of the activities related to the marking of the sixth anniversary of the independence of the country, President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, paid homage today at the tomb of the President Ibrahim Rugova.

At a statement made on this occasion, Madam President said:

On this sixth anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Kosovo, we came to pay our respects at the tomb of the first President, historic President, Dr. Ibrahim Rugova, a man who, with his active peaceful policy and the platform for freedom, independence and democracy, achieved to mobilise and gather the whole nation around his political programme and managed to win strong international support, initially of the USA and the countries of European Union. A man, who established the autonomous structures of all the institutions of Republic of Kosovo, under the occupation.

President of the Republic, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, also paid homage today at the Memorial Complex in Prekaz.

“The glorious war of the Kosovo Liberation Army, and the quietus of the legendary commander Adem Jashari, the sublime sacrifice of the Jashari family and the falling of the best sons and daughters of our nation on the altar of freedom, are the foundations of the Republic of Kosovo” said President Jahjaga during her homage at Prekaz.

President Jahjaga also emphasized that this is the best evidence that the war for freedom and the process of state building has not been easy, in order to persevere to a day like today, when our nation is a free nation, a sovereign nation, just like all the other nations of Europe, in eternal friendship with the United States of America.
