President Jahjaga met the U.S. Attorney General, Eric Holder Jr.

The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Madam Atifete Jahjaga, met today in Washington with the U.S. Attorney General, Mr. Eric Holder Jr. By welcoming President Jahjaga Mr. Holder Jr. said that the two countries have very good relations between them and they should be further deepened particularly in the field of justice and the judiciary.

The American Attorney General said that both countries must help each other and stressed that the concerns of Kosovo are also concerns of the United States.

He said that the U.S. is willing to give concrete support to Kosovo, with all capacities, in the fight against corruption and organized crime.

The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Madam Atifete Jahjaga, said that the meeting with the U.S. Attorney General intends to achieve the goal of eradication of corruption and organized crime in Kosovo for which the U.S. assistance and support is necessary. She said that the U.S. has experience in the fight against corruption and organized crime, it has structure, it has a strong system and methods to address, combat and eradicate this problem.

The President said she desires that that Kosovo will benefit from the American experience.

She said that she is prepared to start reforms in the justice system, to present laws in the Assembly and to take executive decisions to eliminate once and for all corruption and organized crime which is threatening to keep the democratic process and development of the country hostage and to build public support in this fight.

“My goal is to build a society based on law and order and to combat corruption and organized crime before it stretches into leading structures and becomes enforced”, said President Jahjaga.

She requested from the American Attorney General to assist in reaching an agreement between the Republic of Kosovo and the USA for the extradition of persons suspected of terrorism. The American Attorney General, Eric Holder Jr. said he would require that all issues raised by the President of Kosovo will be treated with priority and the Republic of Kosovo will be given every assistance and support required.
