President Jahjaga met the OSCE Ambassador to Kosovo

President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga received today at a meeting the OSCE Ambassador to Kosovo, Mr. Jean- Claude Schlumberger, with whom she discussed the OSCE’s engagements in relation to the local elections in the Republic of Kosovo.

Madam President said that local elections will be held this year, under the legally prescribed time limit, and that the institutions are undertaking all necessary preparations for the elections to be democratic, free and honest and that citizens participate in largest possible numbers and elect their legal and legitimate local representatives.

These elections are of particular importance as they will be proclaimed and held on the whole territory of the Republic of Kosovo, while the Brussels agreement reached between the Prime Minister of Kosovo and Prime Minister of Serbia foresees that local elections are also held in the four municipalities in the north of Kosovo, a specific point of which agreement foresees that OSCE is engaged for the smooth running of electoral process.

OSCE Ambassador, Mr. Jean-Claude Sclumberger thanked president Jahjaga and stated that this mission has already commenced the necessary consultations in order to play its role in the local elections process.

President Jahjaga emphasized that she will decree the election date for the Municipality Assembly’s and Municipal mayors soon, after the consultations with the political parties and subjects. Madam President praised the engagements and the help provided by OSCE, organisation which has good experience and technical capacity to help the process which will be organised by the CEC.
