The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Madam Atifete Jahjaga, received today the Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Mr. Min Zhu, with associates. Also present at the meeting was the Governor of the Central Bank of Kosovo, Mr. Bedri Hamza.
President Jahjaga thanked Mr. Min Zhu for the work that the International Monetary Fund is doing in support of Kosovo’s economic development and the support of the fiscal and financial sector in the country.
President Jahjaga stressed that for the institutions of Kosovo fiscal stability is very important and in this context she said that a rule that limits the growth of wages in the public sector should be set, because such a thing would discourage unproductive and arbitrary expenditures. She stressed the importance of investments in the manufacturing sector, because only in this manner new work places would be created, there would be manufacturing and export.
President Jahjaga discussed with Mr. Min Zhu also about the energy sector, where she expressed the stance that Kosovo must as soon as possible start the construction of a new power plant, to meet the needs of the country. She stressed that the construction of new energy production capacities would solve a major infrastructural problem and would avoid a deep economic and social crisis.
The Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Mr. Min Zhu, praised the achievements in Kosovo and the work that the institutions of the country are doing in the preservation of fiscal sustainability. He stressed the importance of strengthening the cooperation of the institutions of Kosovo with the IMF, with the aim of creating a sustainable development framework, which would attract foreign investment and would help the economic development of Kosovo.
