Warsaw, 27 May 2011 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, who is participating at the Summit of Central European leaders, which is conducting its proceedings in Warsaw, has developed a series of meetings with her counterparts from different countries.
Initially, she had the honor to be the first president, who was hosted with official ceremony by the President of the Republic of Poland, Bronisllav Komorovski, before the start of the summit, and later she had separate meetings with the President of the Republic of Croatia, Ivo Josipovic, the President of the Republic of Albania, Bamir Topi and the President of Latvia, Valdis Zalters.
At the meeting with the President of the Republic of Croatia, Ivo Josipovic, President Jahjaga highly praised the cooperation that Kosovo and Croatia have in many areas. She emphasized the need of expansion and intensification of this cooperation.
President Jahjaga stressed the primary aim of the Republic of Kosovo, the European integration and liberalization of visa process, adding that in this area Kosovo can benefit much from the Croatian experience.
For his part, President Josipovic, after having once more congratulated President Jahjaga on her election as head of the country , stressed that this represents an important fact about Kosovo and the region.
He also stressed the importance of the cooperation between the two countries in all fields and said that Croatia can help the Republic of Kosovo a lot in the process of European integration, with the experience from the path it has pursued.
President Atifete Jahjaga developed a productive and friendly meeting with the President of the Republic of Albania, Mr. Bamir Topi.
After having thanked Albania for all the help it has given and is giving Kosovo during all the time, President Jahjaga said that Kosovo and Albania are two places which give an example of very good relations.
Jahjaga President stressed the need of increasing the commitment for more concrete cooperation in many fields, including education, culture, joint investments in economy, in energy, etc.
“We have joint resources for economic development and our people are oriented to each other especially at the border area and we must use these advantages with concrete programs,” said President Jahjaga.
She also stressed the fact that Kosovo and Albania have signed a series of cooperation agreements, but that even more should be done on their implementation.
She also emphasized the great importance that the commitment of Albania has at lobbying to ensure as much recognitions as possible to the Republic and Kosovo, and added once again the need for more frequent contacts between the two countries.
The President of the Republic of Albania, Bamir Topi after having congratulated Mrs. Jahjaga on her election on the task of President of Kosovo, said that her election contributes to the stability in Kosovo and is in the interest of the citizens of the country.
President Topi informed President Jahjaga about the developments in Albania, especially on the situation after the last elections.
President Topi also raised the need for more frequent contacts between Tirana and Pristina.
He also made President Jahjaga an invitation to an official visit to Albania.
President Jahjaga Atifete held a special meeting with the the President of Latvia, Valdis Zalters. At the meeting they discussed about the relations between the two countries and the areas where this cooperation can be expanded and intensified.
During the official lunch and in the margins of the summit, President Jahjaga met and spoke with the President of Germany, Christian Wulf, the President of the Republic of Austria, Heinz Fischer, the President of the Republic of Italy, Giogio Napolitano and other presidents participating at the summit.
