President Osmani commemorated the 26th anniversary of the Massacre in Shtuticë, Vërbovc and the surrounding Drenas villages

26 years ago, the land of Drenica was covered by a pain that never fades. In Shtuticë, Vërbovc and the surrounding villages, the Serbian genocidal regime barbarically executed 275 Albanians: innocent children, the elderly, women and men just because they were Albanians and wanted freedom. This massacre, one of the most terrible ones during the war, remains an open wound in the conscience of humanity and an act that cries out for justice. This macabre crime was an attempt to exterminate the population of this area. But on that day, when the monstrous crime took the lives of many Albanians, the light of freedom was kept alive by the KLA fighters, led by the heroic Ilaz Kodra. They did not retreat, they did not surrender. They became a shield for the people, with 40 of them immortalizing our freedom with their blood. Today, we do not only commemorate the martyrs of this massacre, but we honor the resistance, sacrifice and dignity of those who fell to win our freedom today. May the glory of the KLA martyrs and the memory of the martyrs of Shtuticë, Vërbovc, Drenicë and all of Kosovo be eternal!

President Osmani: Ilaz Kodra’s dedication and sacrifice are a symbol of the battle for freedom

The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani, commemorated today the 26th anniversary of the fall of the hero Ilaz Kodra. Ilaz Kodra’s dedication and sacrifice are a symbol of the battle for freedom. Today, we remember with respect, the extraordinary brave man and leader, who always stood firm for the cause of freedom and state. As one of the first pillars of the Kosovo Liberation Army, he believed in, fought and fell for freedom. During every step of his journey, Ilaz was more than a commander, an inspiration, a symbol of boundless courage and sacrifice. With the calmness and strength that characterized him, he led the ranks of the KLA, in the first stages of organization and combat actions. But on April 30, 1999, his heroism reached its peak when he fell in the battle of Shtutica, becoming a permanent guardian of freedom and our Republic. His fall was a loss for all, but his legacy is an inspiration for generations. May the memory of the hero Ilaz Kodra be eternal!

President Osmani: Those who are missing are the deepest wound of the war

The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani, on the National Day of the Forcibly Disappeared, remembered our citizens who were forcibly disappeared during the war by the Serbian genocidal regime. President Osmani wrote: Those who are missing are the deepest wound of the war. Justice for them is our promise that never fades. On the National Day of the Forcibly Disappeared, with deep pain and respect we remember our citizens who were forcibly disappeared during the war by the Serbian genocidal. Each name on that list is a life violently stopped, a family that awaits, a wound that seeks healing, an anguish that never fades. Even 26 years after the crimes committed, Serbia refuses to open the archives where the data on the forcibly disappeared and mass graves are found. This refusal is a daily repetition of the crime, not only against the victims, but also against their families and against all of Kosovo. Therefore, our fight for justice will never stop. We remember with honor and demand justice with determination.
