Prishtina, April 30, 2020 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, decreed today the nominee of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Avdullah Hoti, as candidate for Prime Minister to form the Government of the Republic of Kosovo.
President Thaçi after consultations with the parliamentary parties during the previous week, where the absolute majority of them declared about the avoidance of elections and the formation of the new Government, according to the election results of October 6, has received the official confirmation of the leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa, that this party has the majority of votes in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo to form the new Government.
“Today I have received a letter from the President of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Mr. Isa Mustafa, through which he confirms that he meets all the prevailing criteria for the creation of the new Government, including that of securing the parliamentary majority for the new Government. In accordance with this letter, I have just decreed Mr. Avdullah Hoti as the nominee for the new Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo”, said President Thaçi
The Head of State emphasized that in the coming days a new Government can be voted again in the Assembly of Kosovo, in full compliance with the Constitution of Kosovo and the democratic order of the country, receiving a clear legitimacy from the members of the Assembly of Kosovo.
President Thaçi expressed his conviction that in the Kosovar politics the reason, prudence and political maturity will prevail, adding that no one should claim to take or hold power with other undemocratic methods.
“All of us, as officials and politicians of Kosovo, must respect these procedures. We must agree with the fact that power is gained and lost in full respect of the Constitution of Kosovo and the democratic order”, concluded President Thaçi.
