Today, President Vjosa Osmani received MP Vasfije Krasniqi and the representatives of organizations advocating for justice for the survivors of sexual violence of the recent war in Kosovo. She thanked the activists for their extraordinary contribution to raising awareness, the challenges experienced by the survivors of sexual violence, recognizing their pain, and the historical evidence of the experiences of survivors of sexual violence in our country.
April 14, 1999 is the date on which Vasfije Krasniqi, today an MP of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, was then forcibly abducted from her home and brutally raped by Serbian forces.
President Osmani congratulated MP Krasniqi for her courage and determination to turn pain into strength, thus becoming the voice of over 20,000 survivors of sexual violence from the recent war.
In this meeting, President Osmani promised that under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Kosovo, April 14 will be marked as the Day of the Survivors of Sexual Violence during the recent war in Kosovo.
Also, Mrs. Osmani promised that in consultation with the Government of the Republic of Kosovo she will be committed to undertake the necessary institutional steps to set April 14, a day marked by law.
