President Atifete Jahjaga met with the NATO Secretary General Mr. Anders Fogh Rasmussen

President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, met today with the NATO Secretary General Mr. Anders Fogh Rasmussen.

President Jahjaga and Secretary General Rasmussen spoke about the latest developments in Kosovo and about the democratic processes that Kosovo and the region is going through and the importance of peace and stability in the South Eastern Europe.

President Jahjaga expressed her gratitude to the Secretary General Rasmussen for the continuous support that NATO and KFOR are providing and for their important role as the guarantor of the peace and security not only in Kosovo but also for the whole region.

President Jahjaga also expressed her gratitude for the support offered to the Kosovo Security Force, while emphasizing the importance of this cooperation and assistance, she assured the Secretary General Rasmussen that Kosovo Security Force will continue its mandate in
respect of the European standards and in full coordination with NATO.

President Jahjaga said that she supports the dialogue process mediated by EU  and strongly supported by the USA, which is being undertaken by the Prime Ministers of the Republic of Kosovo and Republic of Serbia, as this is the only way to achieve the normalisation of relations between the two countries with a bitter past between them at the same time countries that aspire to join the EU and NATO family.

She praised the agreements already reached at this process, agreements that aim to ease the lives of citizens of both countries by offering them a clear European perspective and thanked KFOR for its efforts in facilitation of the implementation of these agreements and ensuring the freedom of movement for all the citizens, wherever they are.

President Jahjaga expressed the dedication of the institutions and the society of the Republic of Kosovo towards the integration in NATO and EU by initiation of the contractual agreements, particularly the Partnership for Peace Program, and assured in dedication towards the fulfilment of the necessary criteria necessary for the acceleration of the integrational processes.

Secretary General Rasmussen praised the improvement that Kosovo has achieved in the field of security and at the same time expressed the dedication of NATO towards Kosovo. He said that the KFOR troops will continue to remain in Kosovo as the guarantor of peace and will continue to offer the training assistance towards the transformation of the Kosovo Security Force.

Secretary General Rasmussen praised the EU mediated dialogue process between the Prime Ministers of Republic of Kosovo and Republic of Serbia and encouraged the achievement of sustainable agreements and overcoming of the problems.

He also stated the importance of the integration of the Serbian community by the institutions of Kosovo and for economic development and also emphasized the importance of the dissolution of the parallel structures in the north of Kosovo.
