President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, today, on the Day of the President, paid her homage and placed a garland of flowers at the tomb of the first President of the Republic of Kosovo, Dr. Ibrahim Rugova, in memoriam of the personality and leader who was the initiator of the democratic processes, of the building of pluralism and of the political platform for Republic of Kosovo, for freedom, independence and democracy, for the pro-western orientation of Kosovo, in eternal friendship with the United States of America.
In the honour of this date, President Jahjaga received today at a meeting the former President Mr. Fatmir Sejdiu, and praised his work and contribution towards building of democracy during the transition period and the declaration of independence of the Republic of Kosovo.
Madam President emphasized that institutional marking of May 24th, as the Day of the President of the Republic of Kosovo, demonstrates our success in building of democracy in respect of the separation of powers and consideration of the President as an institution above party politics, as a factor of institutional unity and unity of the people, within the developmental conditions of our state and of the parliamentary democracy.
