Kosovo’s accession to International Monetary Fund and World Bank made official

The President of the Republic of Kosovo Dr. Fatmir Sejdiu and Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi signed today the papers of our country’s accession to the most important international financial institutions, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB).

Republic of Kosovo’s accession to the IMF and WB signing ceremony was held at the US Department of State, and a copy of the agreement was handed over to the US Deputy Secretary of State, James Steinberg.

In the beginning, the Kosovo leaders signed the accession to these prestigious international institutions, and later they signed six additional agreements and conventions that relate to the Wold Bank.

The Republic of Kosovo acceded to the International Monetary Fund in the beginning of May, and to the World Bank in the beginning of June. In both cases, representatives of states that have not recognised the Republic of Kosovo yet voted in favour of accession of our country, an act that was highly praised by our leadership.

The Republic of Kosovo’s delegation is also made of Minister of Foreign Affairs, Skënder Hyseni and Minister of Finance and Economy, Ahmet Shala.

Before they signed Republic of Kosovo’s accession of to the IMF and the WB, Republic of Kosovo’s President and Prime Minister Thaçi met the US Deputy Secretary of State, James Steinberg. The meeting discussed current developments in Kosovo, US and Kosovo’s engagement in ensuring new recognitions, cooperation with the World Bank in energy sector and the future of Kosovo.
