President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, based on the article 4, section 4, of the Law on Local Elections and article 57 of Law on Local Governance, and in pursuit of the correspondence sent by the Ministry of Administration and Local Government, received by the Office of the President, has decided to set February 23rd, 2014, as the date of holding of elections for the Mayor of the North Mitrovica Municipality.
President Jahjaga has directed the Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Kosovo to undertake all the necessary activities towards organisation and holding of the elections for the Mayor of the North Mitrovica Municipality, in accordance with the laws in force.
President Jahjaga appeals to all the citizens with the right to vote of the North Mitrovica Municipality to participate at the Mayoral elections, thus utilizing their constitutional and legal right.
Madam President emphasizes that elections must be free and fair in order for the citizens to be able to freely elect their legal and legitimate representatives.
