Regarding the articles in the media and the public statements of some political parties that the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Madam Atifete Jahjaga, has recommended or has taken the initiative for changing the current ambassadors and appointing new ambassadors, we clarify to the public that the President has respected and will respect all legal and constitutional procedures.
The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, until date has neither been involved in the selection and appointment of new ambassadors nor in their dismissal or replacement of the current countries of ambassadors.
The law stipulates that the President takes the recommendations of the Parliamentary Committee for Foreign Policy, after it has completed the work on the concrete proposals, which are sent to the Commission from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
President Jahjaga receives the written proposals for the appointment of the new ambassadors from the Prime Minister of Kosovo.
In the Office of the President of the Republic no official document on this issue has arrived so far.
The document on the appointment of the non-resident ambassadors by the President in certain states, presented to the public by the movement Vetëvendosje, has to do with the regular procedures of appointing of the plenipotentiary ambassadors of the Republic of Kosovo in the relevant states for non-resident ambassadors in designated states, as proposed by of the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Until now it is done with the ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo in the UK, Mr. Muhamet Hamiti, who has been appointed non-resident ambassador to the Republic of Ireland, with the Ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo to Germany, Mr. Vilson Mirdita, appointed non-resident ambassador to the Kingdom of Denmark, with the ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo in the Kingdom of Sweden, Mr. Lulzim Peci, appointed non-resident ambassador to the Kingdom of Norway, and with the ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo in USA, Mr. Avni Spahiu, who has been appointed non-resident ambassador to Canada.
