The Acting President of the Republic of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, together with the Acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, the Acting Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, and the Director General of the Police, Gazmend Hoxha, on the Memorial Day of Police Officers fallen in the line of duty, paid homage at the tombstone that bears the names of 24 members of the Kosovo Police, who lost their lives while performing their duty.
Acting President Haxhiu said that from Lazim Rexhepi, the first police officer to fall in the line of duty in post-war Kosovo, to Muhamed Lika, each of these names is part of the history of the Kosovo Police and our state.
“Among them are Enver Zymeri, killed on July 26, 2011 during the operation to establish order in the north, and Afrim Bunjaku, killed in the terrorist attack in Banjska. Their fall shows how difficult the duty of a police officer can become when it comes to protecting order, security and the sovereignty of the country,” said Acting President Haxhiu.
According to her, the same responsibility is also seen in the daily work of thousands of members of the Kosovo Police and in the trust that citizens have built in them.
“Today we remember with respect all the police officers who fell in the line of duty. The Republic of Kosovo will preserve their memory and will stand by the families they left behind,” said Acting President Haxhiu.
