President Jahjaga received the representatives of the civil society

President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, received today at a meeting the representatives of the civil society, who presented to her the petition signed by the citizens on amendments of the Amnesty law.

Representatives of the following organisations were present at the meeting: KIPRED, Group for Judicial and Policy studies, MBM Mitrovica, Network of the Women’s Groups, Syri i Vizionit (Peja), “Ec ma Ndryshe” (Prizren) and INPO (Ferizaj)/

After the handing in of the signed petition, the KIPRED representative and at the same time the Head of the delegation, Mr. Ilir Deda, stated that civil society, through this petition, states its objection to the Amnesty Law, which, as he said, is not in compliance with the international standards and norms as well as with the practices of other countries, in particular of the countries of the region.

President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, praised the engagements and the role of the civil society in Kosovo towards the process of the democratisation of the country. She said that communication between the institutions and the civil society is necessary and that it contributes to the advancement of the general processes in the country. Madam President said that she will take into consideration the discontentment presented by the representatives of the civil society via the petition signed by the citizens of the country, and emphasized that she will act in accordance with the Constitution and the laws in force. She also stated that she will review the respecting of the international norms in general interest of Kosovo and the processes which lead towards the realisation of the ambition of EU integration.
