President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, received today at a meeting the Head of the EU Election Observation Mission of the Kosovo local elections, Mr. Roberto Gualtieri, who was also accompanied by the European Parliament Raporteur on Kosovo, Ms. Ulrike Lunacek and Antonio Cancian, MEP, also members of the EU Election Observation Mission of the Kosovo local elections.
President Jahjaga praised as very important the engagement of the EU Election Observation Mission, which, as she said, will be closely observing the local elections in Kosovo and that she expects this mission to present a real and transparent report of their findings during the election process.
Madam President also added that local elections in Kosovo, being held on November 3rd, are attest in democracy and of the Kosovo’s European perspective, and emphasized the importance for these elections to be free, democratic and fair, in accordance with international and European standards.
President Jahjaga stated that local elections in Kosovo will be held on the whole territory of the country at the same time and they will be all encompassing and based on the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo. She also added that as massive participation as possible is important, in order to elect their legitimate and legal representatives, who will work for the betterment of the lives of citizens.
Head of the EU Election Observation Mission of the Kosovo local elections, Mr. Roberto Gualtieri, informed President Jahjaga with up to date activities of this mission and its distribution throughout the municipalities of Kosovo. He said that this mission will closely monitor the whole electoral process and at the end of the process they will compile a report for the proceedings of the whole process. Mr. Gualtieri said that these elections are important for Kosovo and its integrational processes.
MEP’s Lunacek and Cancian expressed their interest for general developments in Kosovo as well as the electoral process, in particular the proceeding of the process in the northern part of the territory of the Republic of Kosovo.
