President Jahjaga met with the representatives of the missing persons family members

President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, received today at a meeting a group of representatives of the missing persons family members, missing since the last war in Kosovo, who conveyed to her the requests for finding out of the fate of their family members.

Representatives of family members emphasized that both Kosovo and international institutions must increase their efforts in finding out  the fate of the missing persons, missing for 16 years now, and asked for Madam President’s direct engagement in coordination of all institutional mechanisms.

They also stated that it is necessary to, jointly with the international community, request for identification and determination of all locations or graves in which there is reasonable suspicion that may contain bodily remnants of citizens of Kosovo. They also asked for the amendment of the law on missing persons and building of an obelix in Prishtina. Representatives of the family members of missing persons informed Madam President with the hard economic situation and asked for institutional support for them.

President Jahjaga pointed out that such meetings with family members of the missing persons in Kosovo are important from the point of view of coordination of activities carried out for the finding out of the fate of their family members.

She also stated that healing of this big wound of the Kosovar society, which has remained open for 16 years, is holding hostage other processes of the normalisation of the life in Kosovo. Madam President also said that institutions of Kosovo, together with international ones, are engaged in finding out of the fate of each of its missing citizens. She added that at each meeting, both with and outside Kosovo, she has raised the issue with the purpose of finding of a solution.

Madam President said that endeavours towards finding out of the fate of missing persons are increasing as are the endeavours towards justice being brought forward, and assured the family members of the missing persons on her full support in finding out the fate of their family members.
President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jashari, since the very beginning of her mandate in 2011, has raised with Prime Minister and Mayor of Prishtina the idea for erection of an obelix in memory of war martyrs and missing persons.
