Statement of the President on the judgment of the Constitutional Court about the constitutional amendments

The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Madam Atifete Jahjaga today has received the judgment of the Constitutional Court about the constitutional amendments for the creation of the Special Court. In this case, President Jahjaga said that with this judgment a step towards the fulfillment of the international obligations of the Republic of Kosovo is made, in full respect of the spirit of the Constitution of the country and its laws.

President Jahjaga, who leads the interagency coordination for the establishment of the Special Court in accordance with the agreement approved by the Assembly of Kosovo last year, stressed that the next action is the fast as possible conclusion of the discussions about the law which regulates the court and which enables the preparation of the legislative package, which will be voted in the Assembly.

President Jahjaga called for a general political and social consensus for the fulfillment of this international agreement through the creation of a legal basis for the Court which will address the charges arising from the report of the Council of Europe and which will in no case judge our efforts for liberation and independence. She stressed that Kosovo must demonstrate its commitment to conclude this chapter heavy.
