The National Council for the Survivors of Sexual Violence during the War, which is headed by the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, in cooperation with the Legal Office of the Office of the Prime Minister and UNWOMEN, from 15 to 17 April 2015 has held a three-day workshop of the Governmental Working Group for the drafting and finalizing of the normative acts necessary for the recognition and verification process of the status of the victims of sexual violence during the war. These acts emerge as determined obligation by Law on the Status and Rights of Martyrs, Disabled, Veterans, Members of the Kosovo Liberation Army, Sexual Violence Victims of War, Civilian Victims and their Families. This workshop was made possible by UNWOMEN.
Participants at the workshop, were the members of the Governmental Working Group, representatives of the Office of the President and the responsible institutions for the implementation of this law, as well as representatives of non-governmental organizations which offer professional services for this category of
civilian war victims and representatives from international institutions.
During this workshop the final draft of the draft regulation for the recognition and verification process of the status of the victims of sexual violence during the war and application forms for the victims of sexual violence during the war were prepared. With this regulation the functionalization of the process of the recognition of the status of the victims of sexual violence during the war in Kosovo will be enabled.
It was emphasized that this process must continue with more extensive public consultations so that the implementation process to be nearer and to prepare the necessary guidelines so that the application and implementation process to be as dignified as possible.
