Osmani: Environmental protection, important for our health and the European future
The Acting President of Kosovo, Dr. Vjosa Osmani held an online lecture today with RIT Kosovo students. Invited as a speaker in the framework of the course: Energy Policy, Acting President Osmani spoke about the importance of environmental protection, developments in the energy sector and the obligations in these two sectors towards regional and international agreements, in particular towards European integration.
Acting President Osmani stressed that there should not be discussed about the environment only on special days, but that this is a topic that should become a priority at national level, and should be a concern of every citizen of Kosovo because it is directly related to maintaining our health, but also with the European future.
Among others, Acting President Osmani said:
The future is without doubt green, but we must ensure a systematic mobilization and strategic planning of the energy sector, taking care of environmental protection, guaranteeing security of supply, and respecting our obligations to regional and international agreements.
She further stressed that the European Green Agreement already confirms that the whole of Europe is oriented towards energy transitions and that it always sees the future and economic development in full harmony with the environment. Therefore, we must ensure that Kosovo, as a country aspiring to EU integration, makes the necessary preparations for the challenges that await us on this journey.
The students of RIT Kosovo welcomed the lecture of Mrs. Osmani and expressed interest in many issues, such as the liberalization of the energy market, carbon taxes, investments in small hydropower plants and environmental damage, the use of coal in homes, the need for investment in the field of energy efficiency, etc.
The President of RIT Kosovo, Dr. Kamal Shahrabi and the lecturer of the course, Mrs. Shqipe Neziri-Vela thanked President Osmani for her contribution to this lecture. They highly praised her commitment to raising awareness of citizens and institutions on these topics, as well as her commitment to a new orientation in environmental and energy policies.
