The Acting President of Kosovo Dr. Jakup Krasniqi receives the MEP Doris Pack

The Acting President of the Republic of Kosovo Dr. Jakup Krasniqi staged a reception today for Ms. Doris Pack, Member of the European Parliament, with whom he discussed an array of important issues.

“Today we had the honor of starting this working day with the Member of the European  Parliament Ms. Doris Pack, who has been for more than twenty years supporting processes that took place in Kosovo. She has always defended the rights and freedoms of the people of Kosovo. There is no other reason behind her will to protect us but her principles of defending righteous people, people in need and people oppressed by others unjustly”, Mr. Krasniqi stated at a press conference following the meeting.

“Ms. Pack will remain a fighter for and defender of human rights wherever they are violated. I thanked her for the support that she has given to us for all these years. I promised her that we will engage in building and strengthening democratic institutions and I am fully convinced that Ms. Pack will at the European Parliament defend strongly our legitimate requests, such as visa liberalization and the like”, the Acting President of the Republic of Kosovo Dr. Jakup Krasniqi said.

“I had a reason to support Kosovo. I was here in 1990 and I have seen in which way you had to live and that there was an apartheid regime in the middle of Europe, and it is clear that from this moment I couldn’t leave this people, so to say, alone. That is why I was engaged from the early beginning and that is why, as I shared all these very difficult times shared with you, I was happy when you could manage to become an independent state”, Ms. Doris Pack said on the other hand.

“Now you have to do what all democracies have to do: to work for the welfare, the wellbeing of your citizens. I’m just here in a very special moment, I didn’t choose this moment, but it happened that you are now in a situation when the Parliament is no longer officially in force and this is how it will be only until elections are held on 12 December. Just to give you my impression, it was a difficult time, but, as far I have seen, the politicians handled this in a normal and democratic way and I can only say: good. You did it yesterday in a normal discussion, with a normal voting and now you have decided to go and vote on the 12th of December, and I will try to be here, to be with you on this special day, but I hope that, then, you can really have a strong government, which has to look forward to what has been decided, with the help of the European Union, that means that there should be negotiations on the situation with the friendly neighboring countries”, Pack added.

“As I just heard from the A/President today, the Serbs in Belgrade have invited the Serbs in Kosovo to at least go to vote, what we have always asked for. I also think that this is the first signal of change and I’m sure that the future will be better and that it will improve”, she added.

“I know that everybody is now interested to know what will happen with the visa liberalization. I cannot give you the answer, but I very much hope that you can get the roadmap, which is needed, and everybody got it, but you have to see that you are a young country, which hasn’t been yet recognized by five states of the European Union, so it takes some more time and I very much hope that this time can be shortened and that the European Parliament will be helpful in this regard. I assure you that we are here to help you wherever you want us, as a European Union, but, in order to do our homework, we have to convince the remaining five countries to at least recognize Kosovo. There’s no need any longer not to do so. So, this is our task and I hope we can manage it. I wish you all the best and may you create a good government. You will have a lot of challenges to face, but I think you will manage”, the Member of the European Parliament Doris Pack underscored.
