Prishtina, 23 March 2017 – The President of Kosova, Hashim Thaçi, participated in the event of establishing the Francophone Business Club in Kosovo.
Upon this event, the President outlined that opening of such Club makes Kosovo part of Francophone countries and we rejoice opportunities to deepen cooperation in all sectors with member countries of this important global forum.
“It is very necessary for the world to learn about the potentials of Kosovo, but also the Kosovar businessmen to benefit from the experiences and opportunities that world provides nowadays. The Club that you are establishing today constitutes a forum where one can share its experiences, exchange of information, and create and develop a network, partnerships and cooperative relationship,” stated President Thaçi.
“As in any developing country, recent years we have heavily invested in technical and legal infrastructure, by providing facilities towards potential investors, and helping the improvement of the overall doing business climate” stated President Thaçi.
“The first effects of such measures are observed and enjoyed by the business community. All this investment is assessed positively by the World Bank. Acknowledgment over Kosovo`s achievements is the membership of Kosovo, as a candidate country, to the MCC of US Congress, who strictly measures indicators vital to the economic development. Nevertheless, establishment of this Club today, is another acknowledgment,” stated President Thaçi.
Given that the main purpose of francophone countries is a sustainable development that supports the development of efficient governance, economic development, capacity building, cooperation between countries, President Thaçi expressed his confidence that Kosovo businesses and the state of Kosovo itself will benefit extensively from this initiative in all regards.
“This Club will enable Kosovo to promote its economic values â€‹â€‹and investment opportunities to the most remote countries of the francophone alliance member countries,” stated President Thaçi.
President Thaçi emphasised that Kosovo's economy is making a steady increase, despite the challenges caused by the financial crisis, which has hit the entire world since the year when Kosovo declared its independence.
“Our public debt is the lowest in the region. Our banking system is the most stabile. This is confirmed and assessed by international organizations such as the International Monetary Fund. Kosovo has signed the Stabilization and Association Agreement with the EU, an agreement that provides more opportunities for free access to the large EU market, boost up our trade exchanges, same time it provides opportunities for new investments in different areas,” stated President Thaçi.
He also spoke about the Law on Strategic Investments, which will enable the Government of Kosovo to enter into direct negotiations with potential investors in resources and projects of national strategic relevance for Kosovo.
“We are aware that rule of law is a precondition to the economic development, therefore, strengthening of the rule of law in the country is placed high in our priority agenda, as a vital precondition for development of the country.” stated President Thaçi
“I have initiated amendments to the Criminal Code and support the judiciary to ensure that no one is above the law,” added President Thaçi.
Among participants to the event of establishing the Francophone Business Club in Kosovo was the French ambassador, Didier Chabert, in the capacity of the host, President of the Assembly, Kadri Veseli, Prime Minister Isa Mustafa and representatives of chambers of commerce and business community in Kosovo.
