President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, received today the ambassadors of all members states of the European Union, just hours before the decision of the European Commission on visa liberalization for Kosovo.
President Thaçi unveiled his priorities for the five-year term. “The rule of law, economic development, regional cooperation, membership in NATO and the EU are the areas in which I will be involved mainly”, Thaçi said before the diplomatic corps, adding that his priorities are just a reflection of aspirations of the citizens of Kosovo to live in dignity and prosperity.
He said that yesterday’s membership in the UEFA, the ambitions for medals at the Olympic Games, but also the recommendation for visa liberalization are among the good news that we are living and that we are eagerly waiting to achieve.
Later, President Thaçi thanked all the countries that have provided continued support to strengthen the country of Kosovo.
“As president I will encourage amendments to existing laws or drafting new laws to fill any gaps that could be found. Drafting a manual for court decisions, enhancing the transparency ahd accountability of the judiciary are some of the steps that are needed for Kosovo. Encouraging are also news from the ecnomy and the confirmation of the positive trend”, he said.
The President added that the start of the implementations of the Stabilization and Association Agreement is one of the best news for local enterprises, because the European market is now open for domestic businesses.
He also spoke about the dialogue with Serbia, as the only way to peace and stability in Kosovo.
President Thaçi said that he will continue to support this process and that he is ready to contribute whenever necessary.
“I believe the conditions are ripe for the process of dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia to move to another level”, he added.
Speaking of the fight against terrorism, President Thaçi said that Kosovo has been rightly deemed the leader in the region in combating radicalism and extremism.
On the other hand, the ambassadors of the European Union member states have congratulated President Thaçi for Kosovo’s membership in the UEFA.
They have provided support for President Thaçi’s priorities in the rule of law and the process of Kosovo’s membership in EU and NATO.
Ambassadors also urged for the use of momentum of the recent good news for Kosovo, to fasten the process of economic development of Kosovo.
