President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi met today with the director of the Council for Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms, CPHRF (KMDLNJ).
“It is among the first human rights organizations in Kosovo”, President Thaçi said, praising its work before the war, in reporting human rights violations in Kosovo.
“Your work is important for our past, but even more important for the future of Kosovo”, President Thaçi added.
“Your role lies in the identification and promotion of human rights”, he stressed.
On the other hand, the director of the CRPHR, Shala said that, when it comes to human rights, Kosovo is many respects better than the countries in the region, although this should be assessed in the context of Kosovo’s limited capacity due to country’s overall development.
CRPHR’s role in strengthening democracy, through monitoring elections and inclusion in the electoral reform, monitoring of judicial processes and of the situation in Kosovo’s prisons were among others topics discussed at this meeting.
“CRPHR needs to further strengthen its role”, President Thaçi concluded, thus reconfirming his support for this institutions as President of Kosovo.
