President Shiroka Pula: behind every check-up lies the possibility of early detection, and behind every instance of early detection, a greater chance at life

The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Justina Shiroka Pula, participated today in the traditional symbolic walk held in support of women affected by breast cancer.

On this occasion, President Shiroka Pula stated that we have come together today to convey a clear message: early detection saves lives.

She further added that breast cancer affects many women and their families; therefore, facing this disease requires courage, care, and support, as well as awareness.

President Shiroka Pula emphasized that no woman should postpone a medical check-up out of fear or a lack of information.

According to the Oncology Clinic, noted Madam President, approximately 450 to 460 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year; thus, she stressed, awareness and regular check-ups are vital.

President Shiroka Pula highlighted that early detection increases the prospects for successful treatment and survival. Consequently, she urged that we strive to ensure as many women as possible detect the disease in its early stages. To this end, she noted, regular check-ups, continuous information, and accessible healthcare services for all women are essential.

Furthermore, Madam President stated that mammograms are provided free of charge in public healthcare institutions, adding that mobile mammography units are bringing these services to women in municipalities that lack such equipment.

Madam President pointed out that health care should not be limited to “Pink Month” alone; rather, it must be a year-round commitment.

Additionally, President Shiroka Pula urged all women not to neglect their health—to perform regular check-ups, consult with healthcare professionals, and encourage other women to take care of themselves.

She remarked that we are gathered here today to offer support to those facing this disease—standing with women currently undergoing treatment, those who have already won this battle, and families who have lost loved ones.

President Shiroka Pula further suggested that we transform this march into a shared pledge: to talk more about prevention and to advocate for regular check-ups. Because, according to her, behind every check-up may lie an opportunity for early detection—and behind every early detection, a greater chance at life.
