Twenty-seven years ago, the courage and determination of the students of the University of Pristina marked the decisive protest against the closure and occupation of Albanian schools and the university by the Milosevic genocidal.
The October 1st 1997 protest changed the course of history and was the key moment in the history of Kosovo’s resistance movement. Led by rector Ejup Statovci, the protest served as an early warning for subsequent developments, which culminated with the liberation war and the independence of Kosovo.
October 1st 1997, is a symbol of the resilience of the people of Kosovo and a reminder that the struggle for freedom and independence was long, arduous, but triumphant.
