President Vjosa Osmani received yesterday in a regular meeting the Ambassador of the United States of America, Jeffrey Hovenier.
Participation of President Osmani in activities held within the NATO Summit, at the invitation of President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken, respectively, were discussed at the meeting. Highly praising the US invitation and the presence of Kosovo in these key activities of the Summit as a strategic development to the benefit of the advancement and preservation of peace and security in the region and beyond, President Osmani emphasized the positive impact that Kosovo’s membership in NATO would have for sustainable and long-term peace and security.
President Osmani and Ambassador Hovenier also discussed Madam President’s recent meetings with senior US officials, as well as the concrete steps that should be taken in the future regarding the coordination of actions to the benefit of Kosovo’s interests and partnership with the USA.
Speaking about the latest developments in the country, Madam President expressed her concern regarding yesterday’s decision of the Council of the European Union to lift the visa regime for citizens of Kosovo who possess illegal Serbian passports, stressing that this decision negatively affects the extent of the rule of of the law throughout Kosovo and attacks efforts to integrate the Serbian community in Kosovo.
President Osmani and Ambassador Hovenier also discussed a series of legal initiatives that are being handled by institutions recently, confirming the importance of the guarantee in respect of democratic principles and highest human rights standards.
