Following the meetings related to the process of Kosovo’s accession to the Council of Europe, the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, received ambassadors and chargé d’affaires from the embassies of Sweden, Austria, the Netherlands, Finland, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Belgium.

The representatives of these countries congratulated President Osmani on Kosovo’s success in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, whereas the President thanked them for their immense support in the voting at the Assembly.

Further, President Osmani highlighted the importance of Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe as a decisive step towards increasing the effectiveness of human rights protection for all our citizens without discrimination, by giving them access to the human rights mechanisms that this organization provides.

Opinions were exchanged at the meeting about the next stages of the process of Kosovo’s accession to CoE, as well as challenges and opportunities.

President Osmani underlined that the support of these countries for Kosovo is also important at the last stage, at the voting that is going to take place in May, in the Committee of Ministers.

In this context, President Osmani reiterated Kosovo’s firm commitment to preserving European values and standards, stressing the progress achieved in strengthening democratic institutions, promoting rule of law and human rights protection.

In the upcoming days, the President is going to meet representatives of other member states of the Council of Europe.
