The President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani, during her official visit to Montenegro, was received with highest state honours by President Milo Đukanović.
The relations between the two states have been assessed as excellent, with both presidents expressing their readiness for their further expansion.
President Osmani emphasized that Kosovo and Montenegro are linked by a mutual commitment to the Euro-Atlantic future. She stated that the full integration of Kosovo and Montenegro into the Euro-Atlantic structures is not only an option but a necessity. “We must remain united in achieving this existential goal, fighting every effort of those who seek to hinder us in this journey and try to undermine our progress” – said President Osmani.
In this spirit, President Osmani also added that the tendencies of Russia and its ally Serbia to destabilize the region should be opposed by both countries.
At the meeting, President Osmani received President Đukanović’s support for Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe and in other international organizations.
Appreciating the support of Montenegro, President Osmani thanked her counterpart Đukanović for his country’s contribution in 1999, when refugees from Kosovo found shelter in this country due to the war.
President Osmani said that this history and the present are in function of strengthening of the relations between the two countries and that Montenegro is not only a neighbouring country but also an important ally of Kosovo. According to President Osmani, Montenegro and Kosovo are partners in regional cooperation and the stability of both countries is a function of the stability of the Western Balkans.
The two presidents also discussed the expansion of interstate cooperation and the strengthening of bilateral relations. Madam President emphasized that the Albanian community in Montenegro has served as a bridge between the two countries and has played an important role in the independence of Montenegro, while the Montenegrin community in Kosovo is also an important part of our society and state, continuing to provide their contribution for a sovereign Kosovo with a clear Euro-Atlantic future.
The expansion of cooperation not only in foreign policy but also in the field of economic exchange, trade, tourism, education and other areas of mutual interest was also discussed at the meeting.
