This is the full letter of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, to President Thaçi:
Honourable Mr. President,
On the occasion of the National Day of Kosovo, I have the pleasure to extend to you, on my behalf and on behalf of the French people, my sincere wishes.
Since 2008, our two states have built up a trust-based friend relationship. As you know, France stands alongside of Kosovo in support of its full affirmation on the international scene. In this context, I would like to congratulate you on advancing your state in the status of the Associate Member of the International Organization of the Francophonie at the Summit of Yerevan on 11 and 12 October last year.
Regarding the situation in the Balkans, I support the efforts to reach a comprehensive and final agreement on the full normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, which is essential for the sustainable stabilization of the region. France hopes that the obstacles to the resumption of the dialogue between Belgrade and Prishtina shall be overcome as soon as possible.
We also support the European reform agenda, in particular the reforms aimed at establishing the rule of law and promoting the economic and social development of your state. Evidence of France’s engagement in this area is the French Development Agency (AFD), which will soon be present in the Western Balkans, especially in Kosovo.
Availing myself of this opportunity to renew my warmest congratulations, please accept, Mr. President, the assurances of my highest consideration.
Emmanuel MACRON
