President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, has issued a statement on the occasion of June 12th, – Peace Day
The statement says:
Today we are marking the 15th anniversary of the most important day in Kosovo’s recent history, the day when oppression, violence and genocide finally ended, the day when a new chapter was opened for the people of Kosovo, beginning of an era of development and progress of the country and of the dignity and equality of all citizens, regardless.
On this day, with utmost respect we remember all those who made the sublime sacrifice in order for us to be free and independent today; all the generations who worked towards the freedom of the country, peaking with the people’s war for liberation under the leadership of the glorious Kosovo Liberation Army.
We are proud of, and we also express our deep gratitude for their engagement in Kosovo of the men and women, soldiers and officers of the NATO North Atlantic Alliance, of the European Union countries, and especially for the unsparing help of the United States of America, in their various missions in Kosovo. Kosovo today is a joint success story of all of us, citizens, institutions, and of the international community.
We are building a civic state, an all inclusive state, based on order and rule of law; a state where everyone enjoys equal rights and freedoms, regardless. Kosovo today is a proof of a mature society of equal opportunities, of a democratic and tolerant society which has converted the diversity into a value.
Freedom, independence and the democracy of Kosovo are a will and engagements of the people of Kosovo, the help of our international friends; on this occasion we would like to the NATO Mission, EULEX Mission and all other missions which are contributing to the democratic consolidation of our country.
Fifteen years after, Kosovo stands stronger than ever, building a safe future among the free and equal nations of Europe, a state which contributes to the comprehensive peace and security, by being a developed country for the present generations and the future ones.
