President Jahjaga received the European Commissioner for migration, internal affairs and citizenship, Dimitris Avramopoulos

The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Madam Atifete Jahjaga, received today the European commissioner for migration, internal affairs and citizenship, Mr. Dimitris Avramopoulos.

President Jahjaga discussed with Commissioner Avramopoulos about the dialogue on visa liberalization, illegal migration, consolidation of the rule of law and the membership of Kosovo in regional and international security organizations.

President Jahjaga stressed that the priority for the institutions and citizens of the Republic of Kosovo is the rule of law and order, combating organized crime and corruption, and the sustainable economic development of the country.

She said that the institutions of Kosovo are committed to meet all the criteria for visa liberalization and that the priority for all the citizens without distinction is the integration into the European Union, therefore our country should have a clear European perspective.

Regarding the issue of illegal migration of the citizens of Kosovo towards the member states of the EU, President Jahjaga informed Mr. Avramopoulos about the concrete engagements of the institutions for the termination of this phenomenon.

The European Commissioner for Migration, internal affairs and citizenship, Mr. Dimitris Avramopoulos, congratulated President Jahjaga on her commitment to address illegal migration and the establishment of direct dialogue with the citizens. He stressed that Kosovo is safe in its European perspective and expects to meet all the specified criteria that will enable visa liberalization. He said he is returning to Brussels much more optimistic about the progress on the European agenda.
