President Jahjaga met with UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon

President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, met today at the UN Headquarters in New York with the UN Secretary-General Mr. Ban Ki-moon, with whom she discussed the actual developments in Kosovo.

President Jahjaga praised the role of the Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in support of Kosovo and emphasized the importance of the continuation of cooperation with UN in achievement of further progress in Kosovo, on behalf of all its citizens and of the region in general.

Madam President also said that Kosovo is dedicated to becoming a trusted partner of the UN and an equal rights member of the world organisation, as an independent state. President

Jahjaga emphasized that the Balkan region has reached a decisive moment, when the opportunity for a stable peace has been introduced, after the commencement of the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia on normalisation of relations between them, and said that that EU has undertaken concrete steps to strengthen this moment.

She stated that important agreements have already been achieved, but they must be fully implemented in practice and that Serbia’s path towards EU must be conditioned with the full normalisation of relations with Kosovo.

President Jahjaga said that Kosovo is building a functional, democratic and all inclusive state, with the participation of all its communities and its society.

She said that Kosovo’s open path of EU integrations, as well as the path of the whole Balkan region, will ensure more stability, economic development of each respective country as well as progress. Madam President added that Kosovo continues to aspire membership in all international organisations, primarily into EU, despite the current hindrances reflecting form the non recognition by five of its member states.

President Jahjaga also stated that all important achievements reached in Kosovo must be carefully observed, as they contribute to peace and stability in the region. Speaking in relation to the over 1700 missing citizens, President Jahjaga said that the help of the international community is required for the foreclosure of this painful wound of the Kosovar society, in order for families to find their peace.

UN Secretary-General, Mr. Ban Ki-moon, praised the positive developments in the whole region of Balkan, with particular emphasis on the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia on normalisation of relations. UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, emphasized the importance of implementation of agreements achieved in the dialogue process facilitated by EU and continuation of the engagements for the preservation of peace and stability in the Balkans region.
